PLANET took part at the 8th International Physical Internet Conference (IPIC) between 15th-16th of June 2021 with a dedication session on its objectives and Living Labs (LLs). Inlecom, as PLANET’s Project Coordinator and Innovation Manager, presented PLANET ambition to explore the impact of disruptive technologies, such as Blockchain, IoT, AI etc, to emerging international trade corridors on the Trans-European Transport Network (TEN-T), with an utter goal to enhance procedures and facilitate more efficient coordination and collaboration among T&L actors. In addition, throughout PLANET IPIC’s session, PLANET’s Living Labs were presented: (a) the 1st Living Lab which will evaluate how those innovative technologies and also, the Physical Internet concept can improve processes, operations and the effectiveness ,along door-to-door supply chains, connecting the Maritime Silk Road with EU internal corridors, (b) the 2nd Living Lab, which will concentrate on dynamic and Synchromodal management of TEN-T; & intercontinental flows promoting rail transportation as well as using the Port of Rotterdam as the principal smart EGTN Node that coordinates rail focused transport routes, linking China via Rotterdam to/from USA, and also Rhine-Alpine Passage destinations, and last but not least (c) the 3rd Living Lab which will look into streamlining logistic procedures in flows from China to Europe along the Silk Road by applying IoT technologies as well as GS1 standards that help with the transmission of information between the partners involved in the e-commerce operations.
In addition, the presentation from the Centre for Research and Innovation Hellas (CERTH) combined the outcome of PLANET’s Position Papers explaining the effect of new arising trade routes on the TEN-T, while considering the geoeconomic context of these routes. Finally, the Institute of Logistics and Warehousing (ILIM) explained/described how logistic procedures in flows from China to Europe along the Silk Road will be streamlined under their Living Laboratory (LL3rd), by implementing IoT technologies utilizing the EPCIS platform and GS1 standards.
